Getting the most from AskMyGp

Use AskMyGP to ask your GP, or other healthcare professional, about your health symptoms, conditions or treatment. You can even use it to request sick notes or make an admin query.

The AskMyGP service is open every weekday morning (excluding Bank holidays). The service may close early when capacity has been met. When AskMyGP is closed, you may still call the surgery for urgent medical problems during our opening hours (0800-1830) and reception will be able to get a message to the doctor.

We would encourage all patients to use AskMyGP, but if patients are unable to use the IT system, they can call the surgery and reception staff will add the request to AskMyGP during its service times.

Your query will be triaged by a GP and actioned or allocated to an appropriate member of the team to help with the issue. This may result in advice, a phone appointment or a face to face appointment dependent on the issue involved. The member of team helping you may be a GP, Advanced Nurse Practitioner, Advanced Clinical Practitioner, nurse, care co-ordinator, specialist physiotherapist or mental health worker. In addition; if this a problem that cannot or should not be dealt with in primary care-you may be directed elsewhere e.g. the local pharmacy, your consultant etc.

Top tips to get the most out of AskMyGP

  • If a clinician as already been helping you with the problem-please add their name (it helps us when sorting through lots of request to get yours to the right person first time)
  • If you wish for a particular clinician; it is better to try and submit the query on a day they are in surgery (which is displayed on AskmyGP)
  • Please try to add appropriate detail to the query- It really helps us get the right help from the right person more quickly if you can add a few lines about the problem - rather than “I feel unwell”. Things that help include:
  1. How long you have had the problem
  2. Symptoms
  3. Have you had it before?
  4. Have you tried anything for it so far and has it helped?
  5. Is it getting better, worse or staying the same overall?
  • Please check the app regularly as we may respond quickly offering an appointment or asking for further clarification
